the mission statement

The presence of an inspired blog points to the existence of an excellent and external inspiration.

Yes, I know, this is a grandiose statement to be making on the dawn of a new blog. It is conceivable that some (many? all?) who come here will leave mourning the time they have irretrievably lost. Even the most saintly may find themselves attempting to hex this thoughtless blogger who has wrongfully wrenched from them minutes that might have brought enlightenment. Or lacking that, entertainment. Whatever. I am nothing if not a drama queen. If you cannot bear it, please be free to seek your enlightenment and entertainment from a more promising source. Otherwise, quit nitpicking and let me finish what I was saying.

Passing over the question of whether life as adventure 101 is inspired or not, the idea behind it was inspired by a friend who is distinguished by her ineffable awesomeness. If you visit her blog 101 in 1001, you will find that I have lifted the form and purpose of my blog directly from hers. The only real alteration is that mine is mine.

Enough speaking in circles. For those not eager enough to click through to her blog (the link remains above, there is still a chance, and it's worth it because her explanation is much more succinct than mine - do it, do it!), the bedrock of my/her blog is this:

Life is for the living and not the loathing. It is for trying things out just to see what happens, experimenting with odd ideas to test out the swing and loft of them, and putting yourself where you have not been before so that you can become what you were not before. Life is vivified with direction, movement, discovery and change. Life is happy exploration. If you lose that, you risk drudgery and boredom. (Speaking of boredom, now's a good time to take stock - how're you doing so far?)

This blog is the record of an attempt by one individual to pursue the adventure that is life. The specific challenge addressed here is to make a list of 101 things and then do them in 1001 days. This will be the chronicle of my progress through the list and any detours along the way.

That's it. That's the mission statement. Considering its central importance to the goings on of this page, it should be in bold and bright colour, hey?

The challenge is to make a list of 101 things and then do them in 1001 days.

Next post: The List.
